Digital Citizenship at Ponoka Elementary

Digital Citizenship has been and continues to be a focus at Ponoka Elementary School. We value the health and well being of our students both on and offline. The recent renewal of the Momo Challenge has been reported by news outlets and shared on social media and is thus being discussed by students around the school. The Momo Challenge does not change our message and education of our students with regards to online safety. Today during our PALS time Mr. McEntee reminded students of their responsibilities to stay safe online: 1) If you see something or hear something online that makes you feel uncomfortable or unsafe, immediately tell a trusted adult. 2) Do not download apps or games without getting parent permission first. 3) You should only be friends online with people you know. 4) Always keep your parents informed about your online activities, if you wouldn't share what you're doing with your parents then you should not be participating in the activity.

For parents, we encourage you to be present and involved in your child(ren)'s online activity. Talk to your child(ren) about what they are watching, playing online, and monitor their use. Remind them of how to be safe online (see above).

For tips on how to keep your child(ren) safe while online please see the attached poster.
